Shipping Guidelines: Prohibited & Restricted Items
To ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient customs clearance, Shanghai Express classifies items into three categories. Please review these guidelines before booking your shipment.

1. Strictly Prohibited Items (Non-Mailable)
The following items are strictly prohibited across all transport modes (Air, Ocean, and Ground). We do not accept these under any circumstances:
-
Illegal Substances: Narcotics, psychotropic drugs, and controlled substances (including cannabis and its derivatives).
-
Weapons & Explosives: Firearms, ammunition, gunpowder, detonators, fireworks, and realistic replica weapons.
-
Counterfeit Goods: Items infringing on intellectual property rights or counterfeit currency.
-
Prohibited Media: Publications or materials that contain state secrets or are legally prohibited in the destination country.
-
Hazardous Waste: Medical waste, infectious biological substances, and toxic chemicals (cyanide, arsenic, etc.).
2. Dangerous Goods (DG) - Specialized Handling Required
These items are restricted by international safety standards (IATA/IMDG). They can be shipped via general freight, but require MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), proper labeling, and prior approval:
-
Flammable Liquids & Solids: Perfumes, essential oils, nail polish, alcohol-based products, matches, and lighters.
-
Batteries: Standalone lithium batteries or power banks. (Items with internal batteries may require specific UN38.3 certification).
-
Pressurized Containers: Aerosols, spray cans (sunscreen, hairspray), and compressed gas cylinders.
-
Corrosives & Chemicals: Strong acids/bases, pesticides, and industrial solvents.
Note: Surcharges and specific packaging requirements apply to all DG shipments. Please consult our team for a compliance review.
3. Regulated & Sensitive Commodities
These items are subject to specific government regulations (e.g., CFIA, CBSA, Customs). Shipping these requires specific permits, health certificates, or original invoices:
-
Food & Agricultural Products: Meat products, dairy, eggs, seeds, and plants. (Importing these into Canada or China requires specific import licenses).
-
Pet Food: Commercial pet food is highly regulated and requires pre-clearance from agricultural departments.
-
Automotive & Machinery: New or used engines and vehicle parts. (Must be drained of all fluids/oils and cleaned of residue).
-
Personal Effects & Second-Hand Goods: Cross-border relocation or used items require a detailed packing list and valuation for customs declaration.
-
High-Value Items: Fine art, antiques, and luxury watches. (Additional insurance and formal appraisal are recommended).
Important Reminder
Customs regulations vary significantly by country and are subject to change. Failure to declare restricted items may lead to fines, shipment seizure, or legal action.
